In 1999 a group of School of Visual Arts grads began a comics anthology with the sole purpose of being able to create the kind of comics we wanted to read. It wasn’t a hit at first but it sparked a decade long art assault that grew from simple fanzine into a internationally distributed, critically acclaimed pop culture behemoth.
Known for its unbridled creativity, Royal Flush Magazine became the playground for the best of the best in comics, illustration, graphic design, music and art journalism and photography.
In my time with Royal Flush I worked as Managing Editor, contributing writer and illustrator and overall business partner with Founder Josh Bernstein. Together we crept through the titans of pop culture starting with Jerry only of the Misfits and ending with interviewing Rob Zombie in his Connecticut estate and invitations to Movie Night at the Playboy mansion to interview Hugh Hefner in person.
The Royal Flush logo is still one of my favorite creations and my illustration work and writing is the best I’ve ever done.
